An essential rebrand and site for an award-winning high-end architectural construction partner, centered in the duality of structure and nature.

We developed the new visual identity and site for Bakstad in tandem. Working along parallel paths, the aesthetic and emotional qualities of the logotype, palette and typography dictated how the site would look, feel and respond.

The color palette is rooted in materiality — the light range is soft and mineral, calling to mind riverstone and alabaster, while the deep end makes use of a rich green to play the role of black throughout the interface. 

The logotype makes use of traditional French charrette and architectural stencil, drawing a connection between the founders' Pacific-Northwestern practice and their global design sensibilities.

Given the nature of the firm's business, we created a site structure that mirrors their attention to detail, everything from novel details to vital info in its right place, while providing enough rhythm in the scrolling layouts to create a free and editorial feeling.

The site is due to be released in Q1 of 2022.

Art direction and design for a double LP from Perfume Genius, featuring remixes of his critically-lauded fifth album, Set My Heart On Fire Immediately.

The artwork and package features photos shot in Paris by Camille Viviere, processed via a mixture of printed and digital collage techniques that underscore the notion of remixing.

The images were printed, torn, scanned, enlarged, inverted, printed and scanned again to achieve a singular effect. Pressed on limited edition silver vinyl for Record Store Day 2021.

Immediately is the indispensable book companion to Perfume Genius’ (Mike Hadreas) critically-lauded album Set My Heart on Fire Immediately, a "three-dimensional, dust-blown world that is cinematic in its grandeur and intimate in its inspection of the human form." Pitchfork

Featuring iconic portraits of the artist from celebrated French photographer Camille Vivier, this limited-edition monograph reveals the unseen procedures beneath the music—vivid conjurings that became songs and tactile byproducts from exercises in world-building.

Within its pages, beguiling still life is situated amid corroded collage, handwritten lyrics take shape, words emerge as emotionally-charged objects. The results are all collected here in a process made permanent.

In the book’s foreword, Ocean Vuong writes, “This is music to both fight and make love to. To be shattered and whole with. If sound is, after all, a negotiation/disruption of time, then in the soft storm of Set My Heart On Fire Immediately, the future is here. Because it was always here. Welcome home.
